Along those lines, I used to use mpack to send an image sms message:
on_picture_save /usr/bin/mpack -s %f %f xxxxxxx...@mms.att.net

Here is some info on using ssmtp and mpack:

I think the methods available for being notified of movement are a bit
of a moving target. I would have thought it would depend a lot on the
frequency and size of the movie files. Even in 'quiet' areas (garage,
outhouse) I find there are always false positives and I soon get weary
of e-mail notifications and start ignoring them. I've changed the way I
do things quite a lot depending on changing technologies.

For example, at the moment, I currently use 'rclone' to upload movies to
Dropbox (I have the paid Dropbox plus account). For my way of living it
works not too bad as Dropbox is easy to check on the iphone app,
defaulting to showing most recent files first on the Home screen. I give
the files meaningful names so I can see at a glance the most recent files.

I'm also mindful if the kit itself being stolen. I use raspberry pi's
mostly. So there's no point having lots of video on an SD card on a pi
that the thief can shove in their pocket if, say, the pi is in the
garage with the bikes. So getting the movies off the card and into the
cloud quickly is a priority. That's not perfect and one of the reasons
I'm thinking of getting away from movies again and concentrating on
individual jpegs. Easier and quicker to process and upload.
