Thanks. And you've probably have remote access via ssh and/or VNC. > Yes, RPi4b 4Gb except one with 8Gb that was intended to be desktop, > eventually. Yup back. <g>? To me the 4 GB option seems logical.? I'd rather have a little too much memory than not enough.? 2GB doesn't seem like enough. people have written 8 GB is only really needed for super-heavy-duty applications. > Running 3 cameras at 640x480x15 doesn't run the cpu very hard, one (of > 6) motion thread stays below 60% while not recording, rendering video. > Memory usage shows 133M/7.27G in htop, and motion threads show Virtual > usage at 329M. Apparently nope! <g>? I'll admit it does sound logical and I went with that way of thinking.? I was looking at my notes: 512 MB vcgencmd measure_temp temp=56.4'C 128 MB vcgencmd measure_temp temp=45.7'C (later rose to 49.1'C) An essentially immediate decrease in the temperature, after a reboot to make the memory change take effect and log back in remotely (via VNC). Per https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/memory.md the recommended gpu_mem varies with the amount of RAM,? For a RPi 3 and earlier with 1 GB RAM gpu_mem max is 512 MB but for the RPi 4 is 256.? I have a note the minimum value is 16 but that low disables some gpu features.? Probably for all versions (so far). I did see in https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/105371/how-am-i-supposed-to-set-gpu-memory-in-rpi4 the default value is 64, though I checked with a Pi 4 I'm playing with currently a non-Motion-related project and the default is 76 (or at least I didn't manually alter).? LIS my RPi 4 running two USB cameras (720p, 4 fps) has been set to 128 MB gpu_mem and seems to do fine, sending Motion recordings to the storage device in the basement and live streaming to another RPi -- over 5G WiFi.
