Dear all,
I compiled motion on raspberry. But when I sudo start the service,
following the instructions, I receive a permission denied to access
/var/log/motion. I am a bit puzzled because I started the service with sudo
... so I do not expect any permission problem.
Do you have any hint.
I apologize if this issue has already been faced already.
Thank you

May seem like a dumb question, but does /var/log/motion exist? That's the only
thing I can think of; maybe someone else will have a better suggestion.

The service runs as the user "motion" not sudo.? There was a patch
submitted for this up to Debian but it hasn't been implemented.? In the
deb packages on the release page, the service file has been updated to
include the following line:
ExecStartPre=!/bin/chown motion:adm /var/log/motion
Alternatively, you can just 'chown' manually or specify a different
directory.
