But when I sudo start the service, following the instructions, I receive a permission denied to access /var/log/motion. I am a bit puzzled because I started the service with sudo ... so I do not expect any permission problem. Do you have any hint. I apologize if this issue has already been faced already. There was a patch submitted for this up to Debian but it hasn't been implemented.? In the deb packages on the release page, the service file has been updated to include the following line: ExecStartPre=!/bin/chown motion:adm /var/log/motion Alternatively, you can just 'chown' manually or specify a different directory.
