In the last year or so I've explored raspberry pi camera modules as an
alternative to USB. I've not been particularly organised and tried
various camera modules fairly haphazardly. I thought getting a nighttime
NoIR module was the clever thing to do but the colours are strange. I've
assumed that this was tied to the hardware and unlikely to be fixable in
software. However I've been digging around and found (e.g.
https://support.thepihut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008761297-My-NoIR-Camera-Module-Images-are-Pink-

) which took me to
https://forums.raspberrypi.com//viewtopic.php?f=43&t=245994 which makes
me think that this may be adjustable. Are there any motion parameters I
could experiment with to see if it had an effect?

Raspberry PI OS only supports the PI camera via the libcamera
application.? The libcamera application only supports applications
written in C via the libcamerify "application".? To my knowledge, the
libcamerify "application" does not allow for specification of camera
parameters.? It only can use the defaults.? As a result, using Motion,
you can only get the camera defaults.? (If someone knows differently
about libcamerify, please comment).

To change the PI camera parameters, you'd have to change to Motionplus
and specify the parameters using the libcam_device and libcam_params
configuration options.

I wasn't sure what a "nighttime NoIR module" was so looked it up:? in
the Specifications section? of
https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/pi-noir-camera-v2/? is "The Camera
Module 2 NoIR gives you everything the standard Camera Module offers,
with one difference: it does not employ an infrared filter. (NoIR = No
Infrared filter.) This means that pictures you take by daylight will
look decidedly curious, but it gives you the ability to see in the dark
with infrared lighting."? So apparently the off-colors are a known issue.

As a side note I used an ELF-brand camera with IR to monitor my driveway
(cars are parked outdoors).? Indoor model, looking down through the
second-story window (U.S.: 1st floor is ground level, 2nd floor next
flight up -- I know EU uses a different count; not sure about U.K.'s
counting).? Problem was the IR camera was overly-sensitive: light near
the top of the stairs brightened the mini-blinds in the window, which
reflected in the window glass, effectively blinding the camera -- oops!?
Back to the non-IR version and relying on the driveway's spotlight.?
(Without the stair light probably would have worked OK.)

Barry

This is what I'm finding. A motion detecting conventional light in
combination with a 'normal' camera seems to work just fine - and adding
a NoIR into the mix gets weird.
