Hi,

I assume when motion ist run as service then the user trying to fire the 
events is root, "sitting" in a different directory, "seeing" different 
files, paths and environment variables?

Both use the same configuration file (/etc/motion/motion.conf).
When changing the path for saving video files and Log files, changes occur both 
when starting the Service and from the Terminal. ?
