Greetings,

I am using several Raspberry Pi Zero Ws with the Raspberry Pi Camera
version 2. I just rebuilt one with the latest OS (bookworm) and Motion
4.7 (compiled from source.) It was previously running bullseye and
Motion 4.6.

All seems well but the videos are cropped. I get the same size image
(pixel-wise) as before but a narrower field of view. I do not see any
parameters to adjust this.

I did find a post on the list from some time ago with what sounded like
the same issue. There are some errors in the log when Motion starts up,
but then things seem to function fine.

Here <https://dpaste.com/2HXVCHF37> is the Motion log and here
<https://dpaste.com/5DL8F4ABK> is my config file.

Thanks in advance,

The only thing I noticed 'odd' was your motion.config had a width of
1024 and height of 576.??? Perhaps try a slightly higher 16;9 ratio such
as 1152?648 or 1280?720.? I'm thinking maybe Bookworm no longer likes
the lower resolution.

From my limited usage here of my RPi's (4's) and USB cameras the camera
lens sets the field of view.? And just to be sure about terminology,
we're not mixing up 4:3 ratio with 16:9 ratio?? On a current TV modern
shows will display using the full screen but old shows will have black
bars at the left and right sides (letterboxing).? I could easily see
someone not knowing the terminology calling it a "narrower field of
view".? ...Apologies if you are knowledgeable in those areas.

Barry

Hi Barry, thanks for your reply. I am using 1024x576 (16:9) in an effort
to ease the load on the modest resources of the Pi Zero and also keep
file sizes down. I struggled with how to describe what was happening and
may not have chosen the best words. What I am seeing since rebuilding
the system is still 1024x576, it's not squashed or letterboxed or
anything, it's a fine image, but it's about half of the view in both
width and height as I had before. Maybe a better way to describe it
would be as though it were zoomed in.

For example, instead of this (ex1.jpg):

I now have this (ex2.jpg):
