After returning home, Mark Ochs alerted me to the Cinnamon Teal page in Sibley, and though our initial thoughts were for a 1st year male, I now believe the bird to be a basic plumage adult male. Sibley and other sources indicate that a red eye is pretty much a trait only found on adult male CITE, and not on Blue-winged. Chances of it being a hybrid seem unlikely.
