For the last week we've been counting the eggs being laid in our wood duck box behind the bird store. Before I open the box I take a photo inside the entrance hole with my digital camera to see if a hen is inside. Since we had seen wood ducks in the area we assumed that was the species laying eggs inside the box. Today when I snapped the photo I discovered that we actually have a female hooded merganser inside the box.
