This morning, while doing some early morning "owling", had an unusual response.
I had just finished imitating a Saw-whet's rather monotonous whistle, and heard a single, rather emphatic "to-whit" in response. Of course, there were no further verbalizations. Sibley lists "to-it" as one of the Saw-whet's calls, but in a series. I have not heard this single call before. Any thoughts? Thanks! Al Schirmacher Princeton, MN Mille Lacs & Sherburne Counties
