Amongst all the fervor related to the exciting new Pelagic trips that are soon to come, we musn't forget a Minnesota Fall Classic. The North Shore Trip! This year, I'll be leading the trip up the Shore to Grand Marais, along with Bob Dunlap and Kim Risen. This trip is my personal favorite, bot= h because of the beautiful scenery and the amazing potential for great birds. We'll depart from Duluth early Saturday morning, birding our way up the North Shore to Grand Marais. Along the way, we'll hit all the classic spots= , such as Stony Point, Two Harbors, Iona Beach, Beaver Bay, Illgen City, and many more. We'll end up that night in Grand Marais. You'll need to make you= r own arrangments for lodging. Then on Sunday, we'll bird around the Grand Marais area, hitting Artists Point, the Campground, Croftville Road, Hovlan= d and others, before driving back to Duluth in the late afternoon. This trip is always a good time, with a jovial group and lots of camaraderie. Not to forget, the birds! Scoters, Long-tailed Ducks, Loons, Longspurs, and whatever else decides to show up on the shore! In years past= , there have been Cackling Geese, Sage Thrasher, Common Ground-Dove, Pacific Loon, and Smith's Longspur. Last year, not far across the border into Canad= a there was a Fork-tailed Flycatcher and a Mountain Bluebird. As you can see, this region has amazing potential. And even if we don't find an earth-shaking record, there'll be plenty of birds around regardless. If you're interested, send me an email, but act fast, as this trip usually fills quickly! Thanks!
