The bird was still present at 3:30pm today in Hastings. It prefers to roost on asphalt, which is unfortunate because it is exactly the same color as the asphalt. It waits until cars are almost on top of it before it flushes, so use caution when driving into the area. Check the boat launch parking lot or the other parking lot to the NW. It sometimes sits right in the entrance road in the shade - bad idea. It does not seem to use its legs when it lands on land or water, so it may be injured or otherwise unhealthy.
