Keith Olstad and I just returned from an evening and half-day at Rice Lake NWR. Last night (May 31) we tried for yellow rails at the McGregor marsh and heard eight singing between between the highway 210 and 65 intersection and the old Soo Line trail a couple of miles south of the intersection. They started early at about 9:30 p.m. so we actually got a good night's sleep. Sdaly it was a bit breeezy and no Nelson's sharp-tailed sparrows were heard. Chet Meyers, Hennepin County
