As a point of clarification to Dave's post, I would say that it is premature to call this bird an Iceland Gull. I found this bird last night with Dave and I was able to get some photos of low quality. This is the same individual I reported on 12/20 as a "possible" ICGU. Superficially, this bird resembles a larger than normal ICGU, but other possibilities include small Glaucous Gull or hybrid Glaucous X Herring (so called Nelson's Gull). As is the case with many odd gulls, It may not be identifiable. More better photos and/or descriptions would be nice. However, I stayed a few minutes after Dave left last night and at 5:00pm (lighting was very low) found an adult-like Iceland Gull. This bird had a darkish tip to its bill and is probably a 3rd year bird. It was smaller than HEGUs and had classic round head, small bill, long primary projection and snow white primaries.
