Within minutes of entering the gates of Wood Lake Nature Center (Richfield) this evening at sundown, my son and I saw a N. Shrike. It was perched right in front of the visitor center by the marsh for beautiful up-close viewing. As we were watching the shrike, a merlin did a long slow swoop low over our heads. An amazing start to a nice walk through an urban oasis.
We saw the shrike again about a half hour later along the shrubby trees that line the walkway that bisects the marsh. Also saw Am. Tree sparrows by the feeders, but struck out on owls. Diana Doyle Hennepin County
