Sharon Lind and I found an adult Little Blue Heron at the Two Harbors Municipal Airport this evening. It was in a ditch next to the pond that is inside the runway/taxiway gate. It flew from the ditch to the top of a spruce tree, and then flew down and out of sight beyond or into the patch of woods north of the pond. It could not be relocated at dusk, but it may still be in the area.
To reach the airport from the Highway 61, turn north onto CR 10 at the Two Harbors Ford dealership on the expressway (don't take CR 9, which will take you west towards Duluth). Take CR 10 north for one mile to CR 11. Follow CR 11 for 1.5 miles north and west to CR 12. Go north on CR 12 for 1.5 miles until you reach the Airport Road. Go west on the Airport Road for about a half mile to the airport entrance. Park next to the gate and walk out onto the large paved area. The pond is visible to the west. The airport has always been open to birders as long as they stay off the runway itself. Jim Lind Two Harbors
