Hello Birders, I joined Thomas Maiello and Judith Sparrow on an afternoon expedition to Hok-Si-La park and Lake Byllesby flats. Our goal was to focus on warblers and shorebirds. We did better with the former than the latter, but overall we had a very good day. 1-5 pm, Hok-Si-La: 12 warbler species total, including Tennessee Yellow Chestnut-sided Magnolia Cape May Yellow rump Palm Bay-breasted (female) Blackpoll Black & White (in same tree as Blackpoll!) Am. Redstart Wilson's Also seen (of interest): Yellow-throated Vireo Immature Bald Eagle Purple Martin Pileated Woodpecker Numerous Baltimore Orioles Arriving at Byllesby about 6pm, we saw Steve Weston and Am. Pelican - large flock Caspian tern Forster's tern Dunlin (over 200 by Steve's count) Hudsonian Godwit Semipalmated Plover Spotted Sandpiper Lesser Yellowlegs Killdeer Warbling Vireo R.T. Hummingbird All the above warblers plus C. Yellowthroat Cape May (male) Pine (female) Plus many other usual suspects, 68 species in total plus a few seen but not heard.
