Wife and I spent a frustrating day in Hok-Si-La looking for warblers. Saw Cap Mays (with good photos) in the parking area in some cedars. Saw a few yellow rumps but no others we could ID. Some is our fault - not enough experience. We saw an old co-worker, Bill Braun, who came later and saw many more warblers than we did.
The best birding came after supper when I went into some woods on a hill top near Cottage Grove Ravine Park(Highway 61 and Washington Co 19). There I saw a lark bunting. Even with my limited experience the sighting was unmistakable. I got good looks at him and heard him singing. I also saw the white outer tail feathers when he flew away. The last sighting was on top of a cedar where he was singing his heart out. Got good recordings but they are different from what I found on the internet - not surprising I suppose. Anyway, the bird was just south of the Cottage Grove Drive In Theatre, which is on the frontage road of Highway 61. Larry Sirvio Cottage Grove
