5 March
2:45-3:10 P.M.
3/4 mile north of Hi 55 on CR 42 on the right side (just before you see the
blue silos).

For those still wishing a gyr fix, the bird was perched in a hardwood on the
far east side of the field containing about 1,000 geese and some Mallards. It
eventually flew low (wings almost touching the snow) toward the waterfowl but
landed on the ground about 20 m from edge of the flock. Then it did something
very interesting. It did a short, labored, fluttery flight toward the group
with its body almost vertical and its tail nearly skimming the ground. It only
flew about 10 feet. It did this 3 times in about 5 minutes. The ducks responded
each time by just rolling a bit further away and alighting. The gyr It was
obviously looking for a particular cut of meat for dinner. Finding none, it
soon flew off towards the river.
