The GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES in Carlton Cty were still present as of the 3rd. A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was reported by Mary and Merle Wovcha near the intersection of 27th Ave W and 16th St in Duluth on the 7th. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL is still being seen near the jct of Martin Rd and Rice Lake Rd north of Duluth. The bird is most often seen about a half mile north of this jct. Ulf Hagström saw the SNOWY OWL near the cement plant in the port terminal area on the 4th. He also reported seeing as many as 100 RED CROSSBILLS and one WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL along the Hedbom Rd. Sparky Stensaas reported that the Hedbom Rd in Aitkin Cty is plowed. He saw a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER there today. He also reported 8 SHARP-TAILED GROUSE dancing at the lek a half-mile south of the town of Tamarack on Aitkin Cty Rd 6. The birds came out about 6:50 am cst and were gone by 7:00 am. In the Sax-Zim bog area, Sparky found two BOREAL CHICKADEES 0.6 mile E of Owl Ave on Cty Rd 52. He reported that a large swath on one side of Owl Ave has been logged. Around 30 PINE GROSBEAKS and 150 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were still present this week behind the Munger Inn, across from the Duluth Zoo on Grand Avenue in West Duluth.
