An AMERICAN AVOCET was found by Dave and Sarah Grosshuesch on the 7th at Hearding Island off Park Point in Duluth. Mike Hendrickson found a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD and 14 WILLETS on the 7th at Hearding Island. Mike also found WILSON'S PHALAROPE and MARBLED GODWIT on the 7th at the Morgan Park mud flats in west Duluth. Audrey Evers found two WILSON'S PHALAROPES on the 8th at the Embarrass rice paddies along with SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, SEDGE WRENS and LE CONTE?S SPARROW. Earl Orf found two WILLETS on the 4th in the town of Coleraine at the Trout Lake boat launch. Three WILLETS were seen on the 7th at Flood Bay, a mile northeast of Two Harbors. Peder Svingen found a female BLACK SCOTER on the 9th on the lakeside of Park Point near the Sky Harbor Airport, and two RUDDY TURNSTONES near the bus turnaround. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was found by Matt Etterson today in Duluth along the Vermilion Road 0.5 mile north of the entrance to Park Hill Cemetery. Mike Hendrickson found eight displaying SHARP-TAILED GROUSE on the 8th in the Sax-Zim Bog along CR 29, about a mile north of CR 133. WHIP-POOR-WILLS were heard on the 7th on Cook County and on the 8th in St. Louis County at Normanna Township and at Duluth Township. Other recent spring arrivals in the area include SOLITARY SANDPIPER on the 4th, NORTHERN ORIOLE on the 5th, SANDERLING, CASPIAN TERN, EASTERN KINGBIRD, BROWN THRASHER, OVENBIRD, HARRIS'S SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK on the 7th, FORSTER?S TERN, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, LEAST FLYCATCHER, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, CLIFF SWALLOW, AMERICAN PIPIT, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and BREWER?S BLACKBIRD on the 8th, GREEN HERON, CHIMNEY SWIFT, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, VESPER SPARROW and BOBOLINK on the 9th, and VEERY, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH on the 10th.
