5/25- Leech Lake "Pelagic" trip to Pelican Island yielded thousands of
birds....mostly Common Terns and Double-crested Cormorants. Also present,
however, were Ruddy Turnstone (11), Dunlin (8), Sanderling (10), Black-bellied
Plover (1), Peregrine Falcon (1), Red-necked Grebe (1), and assorted other
waterfowl, terns, and gulls. Please note that much of Pelican Island and the
smaller islands to its south are protected and closed, so one must be contented
with views from a moderate distance (100-200 meters in general, but closer in
spots).
