Susan Fall and I recorded 14 Henslow's Sparrows (all singing males) this morning along the south horse trails at Murphy-Hanrehan Park, Scott Co. The specific locations were: between trail markers #31-28, S of trail (3 males); between #31-32, W of trail (3); between #32-33, S of trail (4); between #37-40, E of trail (4). All except the first three were found after 10 a.m., and we didn't check some areas that have had territories in previous years (e.g., the restored prairie N of Minnregs L.), so an early morning grassland census would most likely reveal more. Also, there was a calling (also seen flying) Least Bittern in the marsh 200 yds. SE of #34.
