Peder Svingen just called to report a singing Yellow-breasted Chat he found today at Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge. It was found seven miles west of the visitors' center along the one-way loop near the end of wildlife drive. This is past the observation deck, at the second brown sign for service vehicles. The GPS coordinates are: 46.52819 93.40726
Although Peder did not relocate the whistling-duck, he mentioned that the small pond it was seen at is actually near the end of the one-way loop, where it rejoins the two-way section of road. The GPS coordinates for the pond are: 46.53842 93.37670 The wetland at the observation deck is very extensive, so the whistling-duck could still be in the area. Jim Lind
