I've been asked about the great numbers of cormorants that are seen on Lake Minnetonka this summer. There seems to be a flock that numbers near a thousand. I've often seen flocks of a dozen or so in previous years.
One question is: where are they roosting? A thousand or so cormorants would make a noticeable assembly in the evening. Is there now an active rookery near Lake Minnetonka? My guess is that these are non-breeders in their second year and the high numbers on the lake is just a random event but I'm open to any other opinions anyone may have. If there is now a nearby rookery, the flock may be a common sight in future years. Don Beimborn By Cedar Lake
