Thanks to each of you who have commented on the gull photos - indeed, upon further inspection, I would concur with the Herring Gull ID - rather than Thayer's. Isn't humble pie fun?
As I've looked over the Flickr photos, a new mystery has arisen - the pictured bird doesn't fit the field notes - Nathan and I were 20+ yards apart, looking at 200+ gulls & terns - wonder if two different birds were involved?
