Hi I am new to the birding community and also new to MN. I happen to live in Elk River and love the trees and such which attract the birds here. I have not been out and about to do any birding, just backyard feeders and such. I have an abundance of Blue Jays, Cardinals and Dark Eyed Juncos (slate colored), Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, Nuthatches and Black Capped Chickadees. One day about 3 weeks ago I had a Pileated Woodpecker in my yard and was thrilled to death. It was huge. And yesterday I had a Northern Shrike in my yard. It was here only a few minutes. Not sure how odd it is to have one in the city but it was cool to see it. Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for the interesting reading with this list server.
