One of the first things I learned by having birds in hand was that ageing them in the field while birding isn't as easy as I had thought. Because this is an outstanding year for Northern Shrikes in much of Wisconsin (but alas not here in my neck of the woods), I thought I would share a bit on what I have learned about separating adults from immatures in this species.
