Hi everyone, John & Chris Hockema and I re-located the Snowy Owl this afternoon at about 4:15 PM, pretty much at the same location Jim Mattson reported the bird on the 23rd, which is east of Emery Ave. and about .4 miles south of 170th St. The bird was sitting on the ground, glowing in the afternoon sun. (Thanks Jim!)
Other birds of interest included a very cooperative juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk at Lake Rebecca in Hastings, and four very large flocks of Snow Buntings; three in agricultural Dakota County and one in the same habitat in Rice County, south of Nerstrand. Both the Barrow's Goldeneye and the Harlequin Duck were no-shows today at Pt. Douglas/Prescott. Good birding!
