This morning I got a call from Nathaniel Emery who was working in the Glacial Ridge area and had just seen two Snowy Owls - 1 big male and 1 female along the gravel road that goes down through Glacial Ridge from the Gravel office building along US 2 to CR 45. One bird was along the road and the other sitting on the ridge about a quarter mile off the road.
Directions from US 2 - 3.5 miles west of MN 32 to the small Gravel company building, then left ( south). You can follow the road to the CR 45 . Nate took his car down the road without incident, but said that a four wheel drive would be even better. I thought that maybe someone might want to know before tomorrow. There are all sorts of grouse ( Greater Prairie-chickens, STGR), Horned larks and other stuff there too. He got suspicious when the grouse didn't show early in the morning , and soon found out why!
