Although I've kept a number of well-stocked feeders and ice-free birdbaths this
winter, I've had the usual northern cardinals, house sparrows, juncos and
American goldfinches. Love 'em, but see 'em every day. Once I watched a
Cooper's hawk snack on a small bird in the oak in Pearl Park across from my
house, but that was as exotic as it got.
I had a twofer today: Running along Minnehaha Creek just east of I-35W about
1:45 p.m., I heard a barred owl. Just west of the interstate saw a flock of
common redpolls buzzing about in a grove of conifers.
