As many of you already know, the Coon Rapids Dam area is now filled with spring migrants and others. Today (3/25) on the Mississippi river on the north side of the dam:
1. Many Lesser Scaup 2. Ruddy Duck 3. 3 dozen Gadwall 4. Many Common Merganser 5. Many Common Goldeneye 6. Hooded Merganser 7. Pair of American Wigeon 8. Bufflehead 9. Pied-billed Grebe 10. Pair of Northern Shoveler Still north of the dam along the ice on the east side of the river: 1. 6 Killdeer 2. Ring-billed Gull Also today (3/25) on the Mississippi River on the south side of the dam: 1. 3 pair of Wood Duck 2. Mallard 3. Canada Goose 4. Common Merganser 5. Common Goldeneye 6. Hooded Merganser 7. Pied-billed Grebe 8. Gadwall 9. American Coot 10. Pair of Ring-necked Duck 11. Male Red-breasted Merganser. Never seen one here on the river before. Still south of the dam near the west side of the river 2 Herring Gull were keeping an American Crow at bay while they picked at a dead fish. And to round out the day saw American Robin and Rock Dove and heard Black-capped Chickadee, Northern Cardinal and Pileated Woodpecker along the banks of the river.
