The waterfowl migration at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park continues to be wonderful. The best I have seen in many years. Nice to have a very accessible place to see the birds. Bring your spotting scope.
Birds seen around the Dam Saturday morning (above the Dam and down both sides of the river): HOODED MERGANSER COMMON MERGANSER COMMON GOLDENEYE CANADA GEESE AMERICAN COOT PIED-BILLED GREBE BUFFLEHEAD NORTHERN SHOVELER GREEN-WINGED TEAL BLUE-WINGED TEAL REDHEAD RING-NECKED DUCK WOOD DUCK MALLARD SCAUP BALD EAGLE TREE SWALLOW GREAT HORNED OWL (on nest in the Heron rookery) GREAT BLUE HERON RED-TAILED HAWK PILEATED WOODPECKER RING-BILLED GULL It was VERY windy and chilly, but was well worth it.
