April 11, 2008 The gates to the Carlos Avery Unit of Carlos Avery WMA are still closed. They keep the gates closed until the frost goes out of the ground to avoid damage to the access roads. However, you can always walk on the roads to observe birds. The sandhill cranes are abundant at Carlos Avery!
