Hi bird friends, This is the last few days to get out and support one of Minnesota's great birding spots..HAWK RIDGE. You don't even have to come to Duluth to participate...You can do a birdathon in YOUR OWN HOME COUNTY! But you have to do it by midnight Saturday May 17th. You don't even have to get pledges if you don't want to...Just donate $30 (or $50, or $100, or...)and you are eligable. Just get out and do it and you could win some great prizes. Here are some of the categories: BIG SIT: Bring a cooler and plop down in your favorite bird spot (12 foot diameter circle)...You'll be amazed by how much you see...including neat behavior that we miss when just tallying birds. See if you can beat Lars Benson's awesome 64 species on Park Point last year. NON-MOTORIZED: Get exercise and raise money for Hawk Ridge! See how many birds you can count from a bike excursion, on horseback, hiking...or? SINGLE COUNTY: This can be your county! Only three teams participated last year (Carlton Co, Lake Co and Wright Co. with 113 species winning it. You can do better than that! It's a great way to learn about your own county. YOUTH: All team members must be under 18. And remember all winners in each category get a prize.
