I found a Prothonotary Warbler hopping between reeds and some low branches
below a stand of trees on the northwest side of Rapids Lake(a small bay on the
far end of the lake). He was singing as well. The only way to access the
area is to follow a well used deer/hunting trail down the bluff to the edge of
the lake and then follow a less used trail north behind some trees along the
lake until it opens a little towards the bay. Unfortunately it is difficult to
give directions from the parking area along Cty Rd. 45. The best directions
would be to head northeast from the parking area across the prairie until you
reach the oak savannah. Then follow walk along the edge of the oak savannah
until you find a worn path in the tall grasses. Follow that northeast until
you reach an opening in the oak savannah. You should then meet with the path
that heads down the bluff fairly soon.

There was also a Scarlet Tanager in the general area of the Rapids Lake shore.
I found 2 interacting Scarlet Tanagers at the Carver end of the Chaska Lake
trail as well. Warbler numbers have decreased, mainly because there were no
Yellow-rumped Warblers. A few more Tennessee Warblers have arrived and took
their place in the Oaks at the Rapids Lake Unit. New vireos for the day were
Yellow-throated at Rapids Lake and Red-eyed at Chaska Lake. There were still
some late White-throated Sparrows at Rapids Lake and a late White-crowned
Sparrow at Chaska Lake.
