Today's moderate temperatures and dry breezes made a walk in Cliff Fen mosquito-free and pleasant. The usual summer residents were there in force to be seen and/or heard, including a brown thrasher who glided across the trail right in front of me. In the tall bushes directly across the path from the second power stanchion, there was a Bell's vireo singing vigorously from a series of high perches.(This is the same general area where a pair of them nested last year.) Farther down the path to the east, could be heard the same song, from bushes in the field to the left, or north, of the trail. Linda Whyte
