I went looking for shorebirds again today and found 6 species at the Dennison
Sewage Ponds in Rice County. Thanks to Dave Bartkey's article in the latest MN
Birding for pointing this location out to me. I did not encounter the
caretaker.
At Oronoco Park in Olmsted County I found 9 species including Semipalmated
Plover and Stilt Sandpiper. There is a very nice exposed area in the lake that
is attracting many shorebirds. Viewing from the park is good with a scope.
The park is on Co. Rd. 12 a short distance east of US 52 in Oronoco. There was
also a Snow Goose there that didn't look like it had been anywhere near the
Arctic recently.
Finally, in Dodge County I found a Short-billed Dowager with a small group of
Greater Yellowlegs at one of the sand pits in the far NW corner of the county
along Co. Rd. G just east of Co. Rd. 1. This is private property that is
posted so viewing is not the best.
