To continue the parade of WW Crossbill summer sightings...
 
Almost all the male WW Crossbills I've seen this June and July have been 
singing. As Mark Alt states there are very few breeding records for MN (I 
believe the first was in southern MN!) so documentation of any nesting would be 
valuable. It is common knowledge that they can breed in any month of the year 
(when cone crops are abundant) and spruce cone crops are excellent and starting 
to ripen.
 
June (all month)--Itasca County (several bog locations MCBS)
June 20, 2008--Carlton County (Fond du Lac State Forest, Ditchbanks Rd)
July 4, 2008--St. Louis County (Sax-Zim, McDavitt, Blue Spruce, etc.)
July 5, 2008--Carlton County (Fond du Lac State Forest, Ditchbanks Rd)
July 6, 2008--Carlton County (Fond du Lac State Forest, Ditchbanks Rd)
July 17, 2008--Cook County (Grand Marais city limits and Pine Mountain
