A nice addition to the mixture of shorebirds recently reported by Dedrick Benz
and
John Hockema was a lone Buff-breasted Sandpiper. It was observed late this
morning
by Jim Otto and myself at the juncture of C.R. 18 and Sturgeon Lake Road in the
southern end of Prairie Island. Interesting was its atypical behavior of
feeding
with other shorebirds in the grassy mud habitat rather than in the dryer grassy
areas. It was good to find this area quite productive finally after having
checked
it several times earlier this month and finding the Vermillion River level to
be a
little higher, but nontheless, producing absolutely nothing !
