A WESTERN KINGBIRD was found on the 3rd by Jan and John Green at the Two Harbors golf course. It was with a flock of about 20 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, just north of the clubhouse. Jan and John also found a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER on the ball fields along CR 2 (4th Street) two blocks north of MN Highway 61. The Greens and Bob Williams each reported two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS at the Beaver Bay sewage ponds on the 3rd. Bob also saw a RED-NECKED GREBE and five HORNED GREBES across from the Cascade Lodge along MN Highway 61 in Cook County. Eleven AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS flew over Burlington Bay in Two Harbors on the 3rd. Norma Malinowski and Richard Gibson saw STILT SANDPIPERS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, and PECTORAL SANDPIPERS on the 30th at the Winton sewage treatment ponds, east of St. Louis County Road 88. They also saw SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, and SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS at the Embarrass rice paddies, but they report that the ponds are very overgrown and difficult to access. An UPLAND SANDPIPER, 14 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, and two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS flew past the Hawk Ridge main overlook on the 4th. A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER and a CONNECTICUT WARBLER were banded at the banding station over the weekend. The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, September 11th.
