Hotline: Minnesota Statewide Date: October 9, 2008 Sponsor: Minnesota Ornithologists' Union (MOU) http://moumn.org Reports: (763) 780-8890 Compiler: Anthony Hertzel (axhertzel at sihope.com) This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, October 9th 2008. Both a HARLEQUIN DUCK and a BLACK SCOTER were at Paradise Beach in Cook County on the 4th. This is about 14 miles up the North Shore of Lake Superior from Grand Marais. Two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and two LONG-TAILED DUCKS were at Park Point in Duluth on the 7th and six SURF SCOTERS were there on the 6th. Two SURF SCOTERS were at Taconite Harbor in Cook County on the 9th. I have a secondhand report of a PACIFIC LOON seen on the 8th at Shagawa Lake in Ely, Cook County. An adult PARASITIC JAEGER was toward the end of Park Point over Lake Superior on the 5th. A GREAT GRAY OWL was reported along the Red Lake River east of Thief River Falls in Pennington County on October 3rd, though I have no specific location. This is a most unusual record. Many people are reporting migrant AMERICAN PIPITS, DARK-EYED JUNCOS, WHITE-THROATED SPAORROWS, and LAPLAND LONGSPURS primarily in the northern and eastern parts of the state. The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, October 16th 2008. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
