The land at Park Point is up for sale hence the signs posted on each side of
existing homes?in Park Point.? The land has been rezone for
residential?developement and that rezoning was at one time turn down by the
city?council but in the?last month or so two councilers reversed their original
vote and decided to?rezone the land.

The councilers who switched their votes?had a?tough time with their decision
and?HOPE that the land will be bought by?either the Nature Conservancy?or the
DNR.? ( this information came from our local newspaper )??

The land is up for sale and that is a fact. Its been surveyed ( survey stakes
and ribbons currently on these?lots ) and has signs?on each plots?with
information displayed on these signs for those who?maybe interested in
purchasing the lots.

Also it was Mayor Don Ness idea and project to?rezone the land for developement
and to sell the stain glass windows to try to the city our of budget woes ( 6-7
million in the red )?If you want the birding community to get involve then
email me or call me and inform me of these?meetings.?I am very good friends
with Counciler Jeff Anderson and Jay Fosle and also been to a few?small private
gatherings?with Roger Reinert ( council president ) and got a chance to know
him as well.

I was also inform that the last bit of land behind the Bayfront?Market that
allow the public to have access to the bay and view?Herding Island is beign
viewed by the marina as land they want to have.? I was approached by a park
point?community center?member about this a week or so ago.? This was land that
several birding folks fought to protect but may not know about this.

So all in all I am not spreading false information and it would be nice to get
invitations to these?meetings because I think my relationships with a few of
the councilers could help your cause!!!? The land is for sale and that is a
done deal hence "For Sale" signs posted on the lots but the land has not YET
been sold to anyone but its up for sale!? Yes in my humble opinion someone with
money will no doubt want to build a home on park point.? Look at how most if
not all the small homes were bought and large expensive homes were built on
these lots.? Each year there is always some developement going on down at park
point and more and more luxerious houses are being built on Park Point.? So
that is why I made a prediction that we birders will no doubt lose some land in
Park Pt.

Also there has been discussions about getting birders to be more proactive on
cases like this -- well if birders learn to communicate with other birders and
get them involve with thier meetings than more can be done to help.

Clearing the air.

Subject: [mou] Park Point land sale

Contrary to the posting by Mike Hendrickson, the sale of land on Park
Point is not "a done deal".? Several of us are working with the City to
try and come up with an alternative.? Rather than spreading false
information, it would be helpful if birders who are concerned about the
land sale either contacted the mayor and/or council members (email
addresses on the City's web site) or send a letter to the Duluth News
Tribune.? There have been many letters against another asset sale the
City is proposing (an historical Tiffany stained glass window) but only
one about the Park Point land sale.? Those of us who went and testified
at the City Council and met with the mayor and staff need some
expression by the birding community that they also think that the sale
and development of this land is tragically wrong.
