Hey birders,
The Mankato Bird Club had an outing on Saturday morning to the old St. Peter
Sewage Ponds and Kasota Prairie area. The trip was highlighted by 12 species
of sparrow, most of which were found feeding in a compost heap that was covered
in sunflowers. Other highlights listed below:
American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, Wilson's Snipe,
Orange-crowned Warbler, Marsh Wren, singing Eastern and Western Meadowlarks
(Kasota Prairie), Cackling Goose, American Pipit, Tree and Barn Swallows, Green
Heron.
Just a reminder that the old St. Peter Sewage Ponds are normally accessible
with a call to the public works office, but driving in the open gate without
permission may result in a visit with a police officer.
Happy birding!
