On the 16th, an immature GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was discovered at Pelican Island of Leech Lake, Cass County. The part of the island where the bird was found is private property. Additional information regarding the possibility of birders trying to see it may be forthcoming. A PACIFIC LOON was found at Wigwam Bay on the western side of Mille Lacs Lake on the 11th. Two RED-THROATED LOONS were at the lake's Garrison Harbor in Crow Wing County on the 14th. A RED-THROATED LOON was at Park Point's 31st Street / Lafayette Square access in Duluth on the 12th, and another was seen near the Sky Harbor Airport on the same day. Two SURF SCOTERS appeared out from the airport on the 13th. An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL is being seen on the Minnesota River south of the Memorial Bridge in Mankato on the Blue Earth County / Nicollet County line. The fall's first VARIED THRUSH was reported on October 11th from Moorhead, Clay County -- this is about a month earlier than normal. It was on the Minnesota side of the Red River North across from Jack Williams Stadium.
