I have no idea if a long-eared owl spotting is rare or not but there was one in our willow tree near the end of the pine rows 3 miles east of Prescott, WI just across from Hastings, MN. I spoke to a birding friend of mine and he said that it's not often you see one and that I would have to do more research on the bird to see if he was migrating or if this was his/her territory.
