This is just a quick update on the non-raptors flights at Hawk Ridge- over
72,000 non-raptors have been counted so far, including several very large
flights recently. For daily updates on raptor and non-raptor counts at Hawk
Ridge, you can visit www.hawkcount.org via the Hawk Ridge website at
www.hawkridge.org.

Recent highlights have been:

7 Greater White-fronted Geese on 30 September

2 Ross's Geese and 283 Cackling Geese on 28 September

14,356 non-raptors on 27 September including 7 Ross's Geese, 1071 Cackling
Geese, 2079 Canada Geese, 2 Red-throated Loons, 1953 American Robins, and 5574
Rusty Blackbirds. The flight of Rustys is a record count for Minnesota and is
higher than the entire season's total last year at Hawk Ridge. The flight of
Cackling Geese is also a very high count for Minnesota- many of these birds
came directly overhead (often in pure groups of Cacklers) and it was fun for
everyone?to hear their distinctive?cackling calls. All of the Ross's Geese have
been mixed with Cackling Geese.

15,723 non-raptors on 25 September including 22 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 4131
American Robins, and 8571 warblers (mostly Yellow-rumps)
