Belated report of the 30th Annual Bemidji CBC, held December 20th.
Yes, it was snowing, and yes, the roads were more foul than fowl. Despite less than favorable conditions our brave little group managed to track down 36 species for the day. Thank you to those dedicated birders who took time away from their busy holiday schedules to assist with the count this year!

Highlights of the count include:
Pine (3) and Evening Grosbeak (1)
White-winged Crossbill (31)
Hoary Redpoll (1)
Red-bellied (1) and Black-backed (1) Woodpecker
American Robin (32)
White-throated Sparrow (1)
Northern Cardinal (1)
Ring-necked Pheasant (1)

Off to Santa Barbara, CA tomorrow to help with their CBC on the 3rd. Hoping for better weather this year. Last year's CBC was held between unusually heavy rains causing mudslides, flooding, road wash-outs, and some of the gnarliest waves that surfers have seen there in years. Pretty bizarre for an area that seems to be suffering from perpetual drought...They managed to tally 206 species, even after canceling the pelagic boat trip!
