Nathan and I will be leading three MOU trips this year:

* Sherburne Refuge, Saturday 5/16, 7:00 AM, meet at the Mahomen Trail parking lot along Sherburne CR 9. Trip features migrating & resident passerines (23 warbler species in 2008, don't anticipate those kinds of numbers again!), resident Lark Sparrows, Trumpeter Swans and other "goodies". Henslow's, Upland Sandpiper, Dickcissel are all possibilities. We will hike two trails, drive the Auto Tour - then the optional afternoon portion will take us north to Mille Lacs Lake & Kathio State Park. Trip averages 85-105 species. Trip capacity is 20-25 participants, no fees are required, although gasoline assistance for carpooling drivers is always welcome.

* Aitkin County, Saturday 6/13, 7:30 AM, meet at the front Rice Lake Refuge parking lot. We will cover the refuge and other strategic spots in the county. Nesting passerines are always a highlight (can anyone say Connecticut Warbler?) - LeConte's Sparrows are often seen & heard - who knows, an unusual owl might even make an appearance. Trip would be estimated at 80-90 speciwes. Capacity is 20-25 participants, no fees are required, although gas assistance is helpful.

* Mille Lacs County, Saturday 10/17, 7:30 AM. Loons, loons, loons (we hope). Last year we had Red-throated, Common and some felt that a Pacific was present (seen before and after the field trip); a possible/controversial Barrow's Goldeneye livened things up. Trip tends to run 40-50 species (quality, not quantity is the theme of this trip). Capacity is 20-30 participants, no fees are required, although gas assistance is helpful. Optional trip to Dairy Queen is built in.

Please register with me by email - send your name, address, phone and email address - first two trips tend to fill within a couple of weeks.

Thanks!
