Hey birders,

Bob Dunlap and I sampled the avifauna of Blue Earth County today. We had some
nice winter finds and some nice non-winter finds.

Here are the highlights: Snow Bunting (100s), Lapland Longspur, Horned Lark,
Northern Shrike, Rough-legged Hawk, Merlin, Cooper's Hawk, Eastern Bluebird,
Hermit Thrush (see showcase for Bob's photo), Pine Siskin, Northern Flicker,
American Robin (not just a couple...we estimated >1000, mostly in Mankato and
vicinity).

Minneopa State Park has also begun its juniper removal project. It was an odd
site today to see a skidloader driving across the state park landscape.
Hopefully this will improve habitat for some prairie nesters.

Happy birding!
