Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at 8 am, I noted the owl is in the wood duck box visible from the street. The owl is feeding on something in the box. I can't tell what, as it is standing on it. I am starting to think this owl uses the box only in stormy weather or bitter cold.
Look through the pines at the southwest corner of the house to see the larger pole mounted box at the northwest corner of the house. I will be home most of the day, so knock on our door and I can show you the owl on TV if it is not sunning itself at the hole when you stop by. Sunning seems to occur between 11 am and 1 pm. Sometimes it is at the hole from 3 pm on until it leaves the box after dark.
